Should we ban fast fashion? Should all workers be required to join a union?Should we ban private space exploration? Should political parties directly elect the leader of a party? Should we regret Netflix? Should donations to Universities conditional upon teaching a particular world view be allowed?

These are some of the topics being debated among the Mueller College Debating Teams. The Mueller Debating season is off to a triumphant start, with two teams taking home the win in the first round of the prestigious Queensland Debating Union (QDU) Competition. Our year 8 ‘s stared down the formidable opposition of St John Fisher College, debating whether animal experimentation should be banned. Despite having a number of first time debaters they managed to defeat the opposition, taking home their first win of the season. Similarly, our year 10 team debated the merits of banning fast fashion against Aviation High, and also took home the win. All while training two new members to their team.

Mueller has a number of new debating teams this year, doubling since last year, as students are given the opportunity to excel in the arena of public speaking and logical debate. The success of the teams is due largely to the commitment of the students, but also to the dedicated coaches who willingly sacrifice time to invest in these students and equip them with skills that will serve them well throughout their life.

Congratulations to all the Mueller Debating Teams and their coaches for an outstanding start to the season.
