Welcome to Term Two! I hope that you enjoyed a break over the Easter weekend and holidays, if you were fortunate enough to get some time off that is. It has certainly been a unique schedule so far this week with more time off for students than actual school days! However, it has been a special week. It started off with Easter, an important time where we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the gift of forgiveness that he gives us. The Easter mega chapel at the end of last term was a powerful reminder of this sacrifice.

On Wednesday at the Mueller ANZAC service and Thursday at the Redcliffe ANZAC Day march Mueller students paid their respects to the generations of brave Australians who have served our country. On Wednesday, we were privileged to hear from retired SAS veteran John Thurgar SC MBE OAM RFD who shared stories of his service in recovering the remains of Australian soldiers who had lost their lives on foreign battlefields. The behavior and respect shown by the Mueller student body was exemplary and a reflection of the significance on the day and their appreciation for those who have served.

On Thursday we had a great turnout of students and teachers to march along Redcliffe parade with other schools and community groups. The Mueller group was led by the Mr Jamie Rule and the Mueller marching band who added to the atmosphere and ceremony of the occasion. The Mueller school captains Alexandra Freeman and Isaac Russell also had the honour of addressing the service held on the waterfront. They spoke well and certainly ‘did Mueller proud’.

We have a wonderful school community where we are free to meet together, learn, travel in relative safety and comfort and to express our faith openly. It is good to pause and remember the sacrifices which have paid for these freedoms. In John 15:13 it says “Greater love has no-one than to lay down their life for another.” Whilst it seems, sadly, that there will always be conflict that will require brave people to defend our country, the sacrifice of Jesus has provided for us a freedom that will not diminish.

I hope that you have a wonderful Term Two and enjoy all that it has to offer.
