If you’re walking through the Mueller campus and appreciating the neat and tidy surrounds, you are appreciating the work of our hard-working grounds staff. Scott, Ash and Steve are the three sets of hands responsible for taming the unruly growth of the hedges in the summer, and preserving the lush, green grass of the ovals in the winter.

Steve Breen, who has been on staff since 1997 and whose staff name badge should be noted as a Mueller Heritage listing, shared that the ovals are looking the best they ever have thanks to good rain earlier in the year and the ability to continue to irrigate with the dam water through the dryer months. The grass has also been aerated each term which has helped develop better growth.

The team not only see to the abundance of maintenance that is required around campus but also manage larger projects like establishing the gardens in the new drop off zone. Students recently helped to plant the new spaces outside MPAC as part of an environmental grant the College received. Coming soon, they will be tackling planting a row of Eucalyptus along the Wattle Rd fenceline to act as a koala pathway.

It only takes considering how much work goes into maintaining your own yard at home to appreciate just how much work this small team does. So here’s a round of applause for our outstanding grounds staff – thank you for your contribution to making Mueller College such a beautiful place for our students to attend.
