Year 2 experienced the traditional Newstead House excursion a little differently this week with staff visiting the school for an incursion. They brought historical objects (analogue scales, flat irons and kerosene lamps) for students to marvel at and guess their function. They explored games that Brisbane families in the mid-1800s would have played, and discovered various herbs and their historical use, even getting to bag their own treasured portion of dried lavender to take home to scent their cupboards.

Finally, the Year 2’s got a taste of Victorian-era clothes washing (and an appreciation for their parents and modern technology no doubt), learning how to use washboards, homemade soap and dolly sticks. Lots of fun was had by all!
