Presentation Night is an important night in the Mueller Calendar where we celebrate student achievement and performances and appoint the school leaders for 2021. However, there has been a quite obvious change in the rhythm of schooling for all students in 2020.
We are intending to give out all our usual awards in 2020, albeit with some adjustments to how decisions are made due to reduced opportunities for students. Online learning in Term Two and extensive, legitimate, student absence in late Term One due to Covid-19 and restrictions placed on gathering and events have combined to seriously reduce the opportunities for students in 2020. Further to this, for Year Twelve students there has been reduced assessment and a change in the emphasis on Term Four assessment due to External Exams in November. Therefore, the criteria for many awards has been adapted to provide an opportunity to celebrate student success in an equitable manner.
We want to honour students, however not everyone can get an award. We know that for many of the students winning these awards is a goal and motivation for them to work hard. Hence, a published framework for our decisions is important. The detail of the changes to the criteria, including what has previously been applied is included in the attached document / article.
One significant change is that the Mueller College Dux and Year Twelve subject awards will be given out at Mega Chapel on the first day of the 2021 school year. There have been some additional awards generated to reward Year 12 students on Presentation Night, but these awards can only be given out fairly once all External Assessment has been marked and the results communicated to us. There will be a new award given out to the Year 12 students who has the highest cumulative score after three terms, called the Mueller Academic Medal.
The plan for Mega Chapel would be to have a dedicated section of the program for the 2020 graduates to be honoured and celebrated. All students and parents would be invited to Mega Chapel and to an afternoon tea function following Mega Chapel.
