Last week Year 1 had a visit from some creepy and crawly bug friends to help them learn more about insects. They first looked at a collection of various dead but real insects, noting what classifies a creature as an insect or not. With cockroaches, butterflies, praying mantis, beetles, cicadas, hornets, and more, there was plenty to be wowed by.

One student said he had every single one of the creatures in his house at home. When the demonstrator asked if anybody had seen a grub before, another student put his hand up and proudly said, ‘My mum says I’M a grub!’

They then got to meet some REAL insects – Connor the giant burrowing cockroach, Greta the goliath stick insect, and Leila the spiny leaf insect. Those who were brave enough got to hold Rebecca the crown stick insect while some just looked on from a safe distance. Scroll down to the last photo to see the best reaction of the day!
