Staff all over the school were treated with a special gift from the Year 9 Food and Technology classes last week. The students are doing a unit highlighting the effects of chronic disease and the benefits of healthy eating. This assessment charged them with creating a picnic hamper filled with nutritious food that would aid someone with a particular health challenge or a predisposition towards a lifestyle disease. Some circumstances the students chose to address included pregnancy, a history of bowel cancer, the health-conscious, those needing high fibre, cardiovascular disease aware, and one even made a box designed for an infant’s diet.

Each hamper had to include fresh produce and at least two cooked items brought together to be visually exciting and flavoursome. They certainly hit the nail on the head with the presentation and there was plenty of happy staff at lunchtime!
