Lifeguards, fire fighters, ballerinas, teachers, doctors, artists, zookeepers! It’s Careers Week in Prep, and we are looking forward to 130 little people coming to school dressed as someone from the profession of their dreams!

What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s the big question most students will be asked at some point during their schooling. Whilst this question prompts imagination and delight for the 6-year-old who wants to be a dragon slayer, it might trigger some angst for the 16-year-old who isn’t quite sure what to do when they graduate Year 12.

Like any school, we want to help students develop in their unique skills and abilities. We celebrate when students try their best, persevere through new challenges and excel in their areas of talent. I’ve been asked before by parents, what sets Mueller apart from other schools? I believe it’s our genuine care for students, and desire to help them develop an understanding and love for their Creator, who knows them, loves them, and has a perfect plan for them. In Proverbs 3:5-6 God’s word says, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

I feel relieved from the pressure to have it all figured out when I read this verse. God delights in us surrendering to him, in all our brokenness, fear, and uncertainty. Whether we are the 5-year-old with nerves about the first day of school, the teenager unsure of what career path to pursue, or the parent doing their best to care for their family, we can find comfort when we seek God and trust that only He is in control of all things; big and small.
