The Year 1 cohort took a trip to the Caboolture Historical Village last week as part of their History Unit. They were investigating how technology and innovation have made changes to our lifestyle, transport, communication, and industry as they observed and participated in activities throughout the day.

The day started with a visit to the old school house, looking at desks, chalkboards, and old methods of discipline. As they explored further, they got to ride the train, go panning for precious stones, walk through a preserved turn-of-the-century home, learn how engines have advanced, watch some metal work, see how bathing has changed, and get confronted with bushrangers! Not only that, but they got to have a turn in the stocks and experience a historical gaol.

While learning about historical times was eye-opening for the Year 1’s, readers might be just as shocked to see a Telstra payphone amongst the ‘historical’ items!
