Year 1 had an incursion with an entomologist this week who educated them about insects. They talked through life cycles, habitats, food and various species before taking a look at a specimen board. The colourful butterflies attracted the most interest with lots of questions from the students and a few stories of pesky cockroaches at home!

The group then got to meet some friendly ‘pet’ insects – Mandy the preying mantis and Sally the spiney leaf insect. Those who were keen got to hold Rebecca the Rentz’s stick insect and feel her tickly legs on their hands. Each student got to take home a mealworm to care for, in the hopes it will develop into their very own beetle!
