He loves composing music and is exceptional at it.
Year 11 student Kaelan Bartlett recently entered a composing competition with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and has been selected as one of twenty students to represent his school right across Queensland as a participant in the QSO Compose Program. To secure a successful application, Kaelan was required to compose an orchestral piece that exemplified a sophisticated mastery of compositional techniques and devices.
As part of the program, he will attend a series of workshops in regard to composing for an orchestra and will be mentored by leading orchestral composers. Kaelan will be asked to write compositions inspired by specific art pieces by contemporary visual artist Arabella Walker. This artwork will depict native Australian animals. The end product will be having his composition performed live in a concert by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra on Friday, 5 September 2025, 7:30pm at the ABC studio hall.
Well done, Kaelan, on this fantastic achievement! We look forward to hearing your composition next year!
