Motivation is the driving force that pushes us to take action toward our goals. It is the inner spark that fuels productivity, creativity, and perseverance. Whether it’s striving for personal growth, excelling in a career, or making it into a sports team, motivation plays a crucial role in determining success. Our motivation can be intrinsic – driven by personal fulfilment and satisfaction, like the joy of learning or creating something meaningful or extrinsic, influenced by external rewards, such as recognition, money, or praise.

For followers of Christ, however, the ultimate source of motivation comes from God. Knowing that God has a purpose for our lives can ignite a deeper, more lasting drive.  Jeremiah 29:11 says – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This verse reassures us that God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives, filled with hope and a future that reflects His love and care for us. Our motivation is not simply to achieve worldly success but to honour God with our talents, actions, and perseverance. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Our strength and motivation come from God’s power, enabling us to overcome obstacles and persist in our efforts.

When we align our goals with God’s will, our motivation shifts from being driven by personal desires to being fuelled by our divine calling. This transformation will keep us motivated to persevere, even in difficult times. Proverbs 16:3 encourages us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” It reminds us that when we dedicate our work and goals to God, He will guide us and supply the motivation we need to keep trying.
