At the end of lunch last week, I was walking past a Prep class who were on their way to chapel. Mrs Archer asked her class to say hi, and then prompted them to tell me what they did today. One little preppie with a huge smile on his face said, “We wrote a sentence!” As someone who works mainly with the senior students, I forget these milestones. How exciting for the Preps!
Each and every day, our students are learning! From these preppies, all the way through to the seniors in Year 12. It isn’t just the curriculum they’re learning though. In the senior school, we’re spotlighting what it means to be a good human, and celebrating the students who are displaying this. Being a good human means showing kindness, being humble, having integrity and displaying a heart of service.
I love the richness scripture provides us in learning what it means to be a good human. Proverbs 11 says “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed. Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
As we head into You Belong Week next week, can I encourage your student to get involved in some way. Donate to World’s Greatest Shave, be kind with their actions, buy something from the orange stall, encourage someone with their words. As we think about everyone belonging, it’s a good week to practice what it means to be a good human! And based on the promise in Proverbs 11, when we refresh others, we are refreshed in return!
