The title characters in the Beauty and the Beast production are played by Year 11 student Charlotte Bird as the independent and compassionate Belle, and Year 12 student Adam Moss as the cursed prince. Their story begins with a harrowing encounter, but Belle’s kindness transforms not only the heart of the Beast but his entire castle.
We chatted to them about their experience in this weekend’s Secondary musical and what they’re looking forward to about the performances.
What is special about this show?
Adam – I feel like the connection we all have as a cast and creatives – we merge together so well to create an amazing show.
Charlotte – The storyline itself is magic, and it’s something we should all strive towards in growing and seeing the good in the world around us just like the characters.
What do you love about your character?
Charlotte – I’ve always wanted to be a princess since I was little. It’s honestly the dream role and she’s just so fun to embody.
Adam – I love getting to yell at people honestly!
Why should people come to the show?
Charlotte – It’s been a work in progress for a little while but in the last few weeks it’s got really good. The costumes are insane and the props have had so much work go into them too.
Adam – Because it’s amazing – do you need another reason?!
Do you have a favourite moment from the show?
Charlotte – The villagers’ opening scene is my favourite because almost everyone’s on stage and we’re all just so excited to kick off the show.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Adam – I mostly keep to myself before a show and try to keep the nerves at bay.
Charlotte – I enjoy the getting-ready part because you’re all getting into character, hanging out, and you start to see everyone look so good.
Which performance should people come to?
Adam – All of them will be great, honestly, but if you’re going to go, it’s got to be closing night.
Charlotte – I agree. Closing night because we’ll be so excited for the last show.
