After months of rehearsals, costume fittings, dance routines and countless musical numbers, the wait is finally over, Beauty and the Beast has arrived! This week, our Secondary students will transport audiences from Mueller to a charming provincial village, an enchanted castle and a world where furniture sings, teapots offer wisdom and true beauty is found in the most unexpected places.
Bringing a production like Beauty and the Beast to life is no small task. From stunning costumes and impressive sets to memorable performances and intricate choreography, every detail has been carefully prepared. While Belle, Beast, Gaston and the enchanted household may take centre stage, there are countless students, staff, parents, and volunteers working behind the scenes to make the magic happen. Their creativity, dedication and teamwork have transformed months of hard work into something truly special.
Whenever someone mentions Beauty and the Beast, the song “Tale as Old as Time” immediately starts playing in my head. It’s one of those songs that has become forever linked to the story. Yet while Beauty and the Beast may be a “tale as old as time” in the eyes of Disney fans, it reminds me that we have access to an even greater story, one that truly is as old as time. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells the story of a God who created a world filled with beauty, purpose, and love, and who continues to pursue His people despite their mistakes, failures, and brokenness. It is a story of redemption, hope and transformation that has been unfolding since the very beginning.
Perhaps that’s one reason why stories like Beauty and the Beast resonate so deeply with us. They reflect themes that point to something bigger than themselves, looking beyond appearances, seeing value and worth in others, and believing that transformation is possible. While fairy tales can inspire us, the Gospel offers the ultimate example of love that changes lives. Through Jesus, we see a God who meets us in our brokenness, offers grace and reminds us that our identity is found not in our failures or weaknesses, but in His unfailing love.
As we celebrate this wonderful production, we also celebrate the community that has made it possible. A huge thank you to our talented students, dedicated staff, supportive families and especially our wonderful Music Teacher, Di Schmidt, whose passion and leadership have guided this journey from the very beginning. We hope you enjoy being swept away by this “tale as old as time” and, along the way, are reminded of the even greater story of God’s love and faithfulness. The castle doors are open, the stage is set, and the magic awaits!
