Last weekend, Mueller sent three teams of Legal Studies students to the QUT High School Moot Competition at the Gardens Point campus, joining 57 other teams from across Queensland. The teams have been preparing for some time with Mr Hargrave and were coached by alumna student, Ava Shield, who participated in the program for the last two years.
The two Year 11 teams and one Year 12 team each competed in two moots – that is, arguing a fake legal case in a mock court. The mooters were scored on their individual performance and, as teams, advanced to the next round when their submissions swayed the judges in their favour. The teams all did exceptionally well, with the Year 12 team of Eva, Eamon and James making it all the way to the Grand Final. James’ individual score made him the number 1 male speaker across the competition.
Between mooting sessions, the students visited Vocare Law and heard from the managing director, a solicitor, and a law clerk about what it is like to work in law. The students also went to the Broncos Game on Saturday night as a way to celebrate a successful competition.
