In our house, puzzles are a spectator sport…. While I absolutely love diving into a new challenge, my husband and boys would rather do anything else. Time is scarce, so when a new box is opened, I treat it like a sprint to the finish line. Yet, the larger the puzzle, the more it forces me to slow down and remember that some things simply take time.
When I buy a brand new puzzle, I never open the box and panic, wondering if the manufacturer forgot a piece (although I do occasionally worry that one of my boys might hide one!). I automatically trust that everything needed to complete the beautiful picture on the cover is right inside that box. I trust the manufacturer of the puzzle, knowing the final image will eventually reveal itself as I piece it together over time.
Yet, in the messy reality of daily life, we often panic. We look at our chaotic, scattered circumstances and fear that pieces are missing, or that our entire picture is ruined. If we can trust a puzzle company to have all the pieces in the box, how much more should we trust our Heavenly Father? Why do we struggle to believe that God has every single piece of our lives perfectly planned out? God is entirely trustworthy. He doesn’t lose pieces, drop boxes, or make mistakes. Every unexpected event, every quiet day, and every sudden storm is a vital piece of the perfect picture He is crafting for our lives.
This beautiful verse from Jeremiah paints what the picture looks like when we trust our Lord and our confidence is in Him.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8
