Due to an increase in the cases of Invasive Meningococcal Disease in Australia, and Queensland specifically, the Federal government has added a Meningococcal vaccine onto the National immunisation Schedule for Year 10 students. What many are not aware of, is that this vaccine is actually free for all 15 to 19 year olds until the 31st of December 2018.

Due to the small numbers of young people who have received this vaccine combined with the seriousness of the illness, Moreton Bay Regional Council is providing an additional drop-in clinic at Mueller for eligible students. This clinic will assist those families who are not able to take time off work to attend a medical centre and will operate before school on the day of our scheduled Year 10 vaccination visit (Wednesday 19 September), from 8am until 9am. Students who are 15 to 19 years old on the day of the clinic and are not currently in Year 10 can drop-in and receive the recommended vaccine which will provide protection from Meningococcal A, C, W and Y.

Please find below, a Meningococcal Vaccine Consent Form and Fact Sheet…

The Queensland Health website at http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au and the Queensland School Immunisation Program detailed at www.health.qld.gov.au/immunisation provide further information about Meningococcal.
