We discovered a creation of Mr Watson’s in the Industrial Technology wing while students were away and couldn’t help but be curious about what he was up to.

The table project is for one of his final subjects as part of his University degrees in Education and Technology as he studies to become an Industrial Technology and Design teacher. The table has taken about 200 hours over the last 5 weeks (all the holidays, weekends and hours after work.) You could say he’s looking forward to finishing!

This style of tabletop is called a ‘River Table’, which uses epoxy resin cast between the timber slabs to simulate water. The table legs were inspired by classic European aqueducts and bridges. The finished table will also feature hidden LED lighting that will illuminate the epoxy resin from below.

What brought you to Mueller?
My wife, Mrs Watson in grade 4 brought me to Mueller 2.5 years ago. I was fortunate enough to begin working here part-time while I study, and I’ve loved every minute since.

What is your current role?
I’m a teacher aide for the Industrial Technology & Design department.

What are you most passionate about in your role?
I really enjoy the variety my job offers me. From construction, maintenance and repairs, as well as assisting students – every day for me is different.

What was your very first job?
I was a cabinet maker for a week before deciding that wasn’t for me, lol. In the years since then, I’ve completed apprenticeships in and worked as a Vehicle Mechanic and an Electrical Linesman

Coffee of choice?
Umm, Tea?
