Last week our Year 10 Design students were treated to a visit from two Design students from QUT, Riley and Perrin. The pair gave the classes insight into different fields of design and the potential career paths available.

They then gave some practical direction, getting the students to divide into groups and analyze an everyday item they were given. With items like car remote’s and spray bottles, students first had to figure out how they worked and what their function was. They then went on to come up with ideas on how they could be redesigned to make them more user friendly and even to be adapted to be used for other purposes. The final designs were then presented to the class as a whole.

It was an eyeopener to some of the students to see how design works in the real world and no doubt an inspiration for future career pathways.
