This term our Touch Academy players escaped for a weekend to develop their skills at the 2021 Touch Football Academy Camp. Two of our students shared their experience of the weekend…

The highlight of my Touch Camp experience was the culture and environment created by the coaches and players. I loved getting the opportunity to participate in activities like messy games, the tournament, skill based trainings and going to the beach. I felt as though the relationships within the academy became stronger throughout the time spent together. Overall, Touch Camp has allowed me to strengthen my skills and friendships within my team, preparing us for the touch season ahead.

Touch Camp 2021 provided a range of fun and meaningful experiences for me throughout the weekend. There were many teachable moments over the course of the three days, not only in skill development but with building character, learning to be ‘hard and humble,’ hanging out with people I wouldn’t usually, and building new friendships. Mueller Touch Academy is so blessed to be able to hold the camp at a remarkable recreation centre right next to the beach where the teams can enjoy a break from training hard.

As part of the Senior Girls 1 team, we are very fortunate to have the best coach, Aaron Hockey, who strives to put us first and help us improve in our skills individually and as a team. Aaron has given up his time to not only teach us new skills but to become closer as a team and create a bond that can last outside of school. He has definitely taught me how to be a better leader on and off the field and how to put my team first before myself.

The highlight of the camp for me was the tournament that happened on the Saturday night where six captains drafted teams out of all the ages, as it was a chance for me to show leadership and get to know the girls in younger grades. Unfortunately, my team came runners up in the grand final, however, I was super proud of all my girls who pushed through five games and still gave all they had to go into drop off. With all that said, none of this would happen without the coaches who put in so much time and effort to build the next generation of Mueller Touch Academy. We thank our coaches for all their hard work and making touch camp 2021 a very memorable experience.
