Year 9 Industrial Technology students competed in the 2022 CO2 Dragster Racing Championships this week.
CO2 dragsters are a timber-bodied car with plastic wheels and axles. Two dragsters are launched on a 20-meter track in a head-to-head race. They are powered by small gas canisters, which contain carbon dioxide gas. These small dragsters are seriously fast. Most only take around 1 second to get down the track.
As students complete this activity they are learning valuable engineering principles, design processes and manufacturing skills. To succeed, a dragster design must consider the factors of mass, momentum, drag and friction.
