NAIDOC Week is celebrated this year in the holidays from July 2-9. Primaries took time in assembly this week to bring NAIDOC to Mueller by acknowledging First Nation’s history, culture and achievements. They had Indigenous visitors, Larry and Luke, share a ‘welcome’ dance before explaining what it means to be an ‘elder’. Students were then treated to a song on the didgeridoo and clapping sticks, and Larry explained the cultural tradition behind the instruments.

Year six students then performed an Indigenous song, ‘Inanay Gapu Wanna’, that tells the story of a cheeky goanna.
