With a keen interest in screen entertainment, this week Year 10 Film, TV & New Media students explored an important aspect of the industry when visited by a professional makeup artist. Special effects makeup is an exciting corner of the creative industry, being used in almost every production from stage to screen.

Students were able to get hands-on trying out special effects basics as they carefully created scars, cuts, bullet holes, grazes, and burns on themselves and each other. They learned about aging effects and created wounds for imagined characters and storylines.

The class were sent home with their own small kit of makeup supplies to continue fine-tuning the craft and perhaps take steps toward one day playing their own part in the creative industry.
