Year 11 and 12 Legal Studies were off to court last week for the 2024 Humanities Week mock trial. An unlucky Year 9 student was selected to stand trial for ‘dealing’ Wizz Fizz on school property, allowing the Legal students to explore the various roles in a court.

A jury was painstakingly selected from the Year 9’s, undergoing rigorous questions in the process like ‘Drake or Kendrick?’. With a magistrate, prosecutors & defence, bailiff, witnesses, and judges associate added to the mix, the Year 9’s watching on were able to learn some of the day-to-day machinations of a courtroom. All was going smoothly until the accused was found guilty and promptly did a runner! Not to worry – he was successfully captured and taken into custody for a rather harsh sentencing from his peers.
