On Saturday, September 7th, Mrs. Wouters and Mr. Rule accompanied 16 students from Grades 8 to 10 to the Queensland Junior Anglers Fishing Competition on Moreton Island. Ninety-five students participated from schools all around the South-East Queensland region.

Despite the day being marked by a slower-than-usual fish bite and a strong northerly wind that made casting lures challenging, the students showed determination. Throughout the day, a number of fish were hooked, but Mueller’s team struggled to land many of their catches.

The largest fish caught was a 73cm flathead. The highlight of the day came from Xavier Foley, who secured 2nd place in the U16 division, winning a tackle box and tackle set. Every student’s effort was recognized with a sponsored assortment of fishing gear.

Beyond the competition, the event proved to be a valuable learning experience. Students gained hands-on knowledge in setting up fishing lines, baiting hooks, and trying various fishing techniques, including the use of plastic and soft plastic lures.
