An announcement for the chess-lovers or those keen to learn! This term 23 Primaries have been competing in Duel Chess on Thursday afternoons covering topics such as, the correct way to set up a chess board, how all the pieces move, the value of each piece, how to attack and capture an opponent’s piece safely, how to defend when being attacked, the unique features of the pawn, putting your opponent in check, check mating your opponent and castling.
In Term 3, Secondaries and Primaries are welcome to participate and come along to learn:
- Tactics for creating more checkmate opportunities.
- Profitable exchanges of pieces.
- Twofold attacks such as Discovery Attacks, Forks and Pins.
- Different types of draws.
- Check mating with the queen.
- Capturing en passant.
- How to notate your moves.
- Opening Strategies.
Duel Chess will also delve deeper into topics such as defending, winning material and how to defend against checkmate. We look forward to welcoming back our students from Term 2, along with any new students who would like to join us in Term 3.
