Heritage Day is one looked forward to for years. As young students, they watch the parade and start planning for the day they get to dress up and make their own sign. The 2025 Year 6 cohort finally had their opportunity to march the campus last week, and they certainly made their mark as they recreated protests of the early 1900s.
Students then moved into rotations doing historical activities: making butter by hand, playing a traditional indigenous ball game called ‘buroinjin’, and learning indigenous-style art with visiting artist, Mariah Sweetman. Lunch was a picnic on the oval with a sausage sizzle, and all the Aussie-style goodies students could fit in their bags to share.
They finished the day with a huge bush-dance, embracing the tradition of the heel-and-toe-polka, strip the willows, and the nutbush! There were prizes for best dancers and best costumes to finish their big day.
