When Cyclone Alfred put a stop to the Year 7 camp earlier this year, there were sighs of disappointment. But this week, the cohort were extra excited because they were able to have a catch-up camp at nearby Warrawee. Students threw themselves into the challenges of the climbing wall, canoeing and tower-building, while embracing the new experiences of fire-making and camp cooking.

The Op Shop Hop dance party is always a highlight, and Year 7 brought the looks and the moves! These are some highlights from the campers themselves…

At camp, the theme was having an attitude of gratitude and embracing new and old friendships and for my group that wasn’t a problem, and we easily became friends. The camp site was really cool and don’t get me started on the breakfast muffins we had. On the first day my group did canoeing, crate climbing, and team games. For the team games, one of the activities were making a square with rope blindfolded! On the second day my group did bouldering and made damper. We also learnt how to use flint and steel and made a small fire using cotton balls. Camp was a very fun experience, especially doing the catwalk for the opshop hop, and I made lots of memories with new people.

At Year 7 camp we had a lot of fun, sharing laughs, making new friendships, and making new memories. As we arrived, we placed our bags down and started the activities making damper, canoeing, random games, crate stacking, and bouldering. As the day came to an end, we all dressed up in crazy outfits and danced our heart out until it was time to take showers to go to bed. After that we had the last two activities and lunch – I think we can all agree that Year 7 camp was a time to remember.

The best part of camp was definitely the Op Shop Hop. Me and my friends all dressed crazily, strutted down the runway and didn’t stop dancing the whole night. I went out of my comfort zone during the crate challenge and bouldering since I have a fear of heights. I may have felt worried, but in the end, I completed it. In my group, I didn’t get put with all my friends and for our first activity, I was stuck grumbling and not enjoying myself. But I realised that grumbling was the thing that stopped me from enjoying myself. So, because of this, I learnt that whatever happens, having an attitude of gratitude and not grumbling makes everything 10 times better. In the end, I loved the camp and had the best time.
