Senior Arts students had the opportunity to travel to Melbourne during the school holidays to explore the cultural capital of Australia. The activities were extensive, ranging from sitting front row in the new hit musical, ‘Hadestown’, to walking through the Lego Star Wars exhibition at the Melbourne Museum, and becoming some of the last audience members of The Project at Channel 10 in their penultimate episode. Many cited their visit to the French Impressionist exhibition as a favourite, as they got up close to original pieces from Monet and Renoir.
The group explored the staple Melbourne sightseeing spots, wandering the graffiti alleyways and Queen Victoria Markets. The Rippon Lea Estate is the site of many Australian period film shoots, and students took in the grounds and the various stages of historical decor inside. But that’s not all! They saw a play from a local independent theatre, visited the ‘Story of the Moving Image’ exhibit at ACMI, and to top it all off, took on an escape room together!
The tour allowed students to be inspired for their future assessment creations and also to explore outside of their chosen artistic disciplines. It was encouraging to see the travellers come home brimming with creativity!
