Three teams of Year 11 & 12 students recently competed in the QUT High School Legal Mooting Competition over a weekend in Brisbane.
Mooting is a simulated court hearing where students take on the role of lawyers to present legal arguments in a mock case. They will analyse a problem, research the relevant law, prepare written submissions, and present their arguments before a judge. This activity is highly regarded for developing essential skills such as critical thinking, legal analysis, public speaking, and teamwork, offering an invaluable insight into the legal profession.
The students had been collaboratively prepping for months leading up to the comp that saw teams from over 50 schools participate in the 3-day event. They also got to visit a city law firm, gain insights from a practising barrister, and take a tour of the QUT Law School. Look out for these students in a courtroom near you in the coming years!
