Recently, I have been listening to a lot of podcasts on AI. The tsunami of generative AI is only just beginning. AI is a fantastic tool for learning, and like any tool can be used for both good and bad.
In any of the moves towards AI, a major concern is the loss of ‘learning in community’. One school I recently heard of emphasises that all their lessons are generated through ‘AI empowered learning’. Harnessing the power of the ‘world’s knowledge’ can be intoxicating. However, as a community, we need to be careful not to lose the human connection that comes about through the classrooms and playgrounds.
As we wrestle with the student use of AI, the goal is to see our students flourish amid this new tech revolution. We never want to see AI replace meaningful relationships and the wisdom that can be gained through classroom interaction. We want to see people come together, rather than being fragmented behind computer screens.
We believe real learning happens when students are in community – learning, sharing and solving problems together.
