During spring, I’m always delighted to see the buds on my magnolia tree blossom into beautiful white flowers. As educators and parents, we are also delighted to see our children grow, not just in their achievements but in the steady progress they make over the year. Just like my magnolia tree does not bloom overnight, but with nurturing and the right environment, students flourish beautifully in their season.
At Mueller College, we believe that signs of growth are far more valuable than receiving top marks or coming first. While we value and celebrate exceptional academic, musical, cultural and sporting achievements, we also take great delight in the small steps – the moments of bouncing back when things are hard, showing kindness to others and being courageous when afraid.
On Thursday night at Presentation Night, we will honour the dedication, effort and accomplishments of many students. Yet beyond the awards and applause, we celebrate something deeper. We also celebrate the daily progress of students growing into the people God created them to be.
Psalm 1:3 reminds us “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers”.
As a community, may we continue to partner together to nurture our children’s hearts and minds, so they not only achieve, but truly flourish, growing in wisdom, grace, and purpose.
