Last week, Year 9 and 10 STEM classes had a virtual reality experience that introduced them to the Defence industries. Not to be confused with the Defence Force, Defence industries are the surrounding industries that help turn ideas into capabilities. Career paths in the defence industries range from development in uniforms, mechatronics, cybersecurity, software, aerospace engineering, design, building, maintenance support systems and other skilled trades.
These classes were immersed in a mechatronics presentation, which involved virtually servicing a military drone. They had to undo panels with a torque driver, remove an avionics panel, solder on parts, all with the wave of their arms. The students had a great time, and some may even be reconsidering their future career path!
