This term, Year Five students have been exploring the art of narrative writing using the Seven Steps approach. A key focus has been the Sizzling Start, the all-important hook that captures a reader’s attention from the very first sentence.
This week, students concentrated on what makes a powerful opening and how to engage readers right away. The students of Five Yellow visited the library to seek out their favourite Sizzling Starts from well-loved texts. Inspired by these examples, they then crafted their own compelling story openings and shared them with their peers.
