Year 11 & 12 Drama students were at their best for last week’s Absurdist performance. The Year 11’s opened the show with an expressionist piece exploring the post-industrial complex and its influence on art. The larger troupe splintered into smaller groups, each preparing its own two-minute act using outer actions to express inner feelings.
The Year 12’s delved into absurdism. They were given a choice of several pieces and were tasked with making sense of it (or nonsense as the style demands) using their own interpretation. Some took us to dark places, others comedic, and all kept the audience on their toes.
Our Kitchen Ops & Hospitality students served delicious and slightly absurd canapes, drinks and desserts before and during the show. They designed the bites to play with the senses by not tasting the way they looked, bringing their own delightfully off-kilter touch to the evening. The bread dipped in butter candles kept everyone intrigued!
