Last week saw Mueller’s dancers gather for Dance Night. Unlike their Arts Festival performances at the end of the year, which are results-focused, this event is about exploring the dance process.
While guests were enjoying refreshments upon arrival from our fantastic hospitality team, the dancers started an audition experience with guest choreographer Jacinta Pasco. Jacinta taught them a routine that included just 20 minutes for students to learn and absorb. An hour and a half later, after performing their other prepared pieces, they came back to the stage in groups to perform the choreography in a simulated audition session. The dancers continued the experience with an improvisation session where they heard 30 seconds of a piece of music and were then given an opportunity to show what they’ve got on the spot!
The Primary and Secondary dance troupes have been attending dance workshops with visiting professionals for the last few weeks to build a piece. They were able to show what they’ve learned so far and receive live feedback from Jacinta. Each of the curriculum dancers also performed group pieces, receiving tips and critiques from Jacinta in front of the audience. What might have started as a daunting experience for dancers turned out to be incredibly encouraging and confidence-building.
It was a fantastic night of watching our dancers display incredible skill and courage!
