If a frisbee comes flying your way this week, don’t worry, it’s not just for the backyard. It’s a reminder of our You Belong Week theme: Pass It On – Small Acts, Big Belonging. Like a frisbee, kindness isn’t meant to be held onto. It’s meant to be passed on.
We are reminded of this in the Bible:
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” – 1 John 3:18
At Mueller, we believe love is more than a feeling or a slogan, it’s something we do. God didn’t just say He loved us; He showed His love by sending Jesus. And Jesus didn’t just speak about kindness; He lived it, welcoming people in, listening well, helping those in need, and showing grace. That’s the message we want our students to catch this week: receive God’s great love, and then pass it on.
In practice, that looks like simple, everyday choices; including someone in a game, offering to help, giving encouragement, letting someone go first, praying for someone, smiling and saying hello. These might seem small, but together they build a culture where people feel noticed, welcomed, included, and cared for, where they know they belong.
You may see your Primary school child come home with a You Belong frisbee and stories about kindness at school. We’d love to invite you to keep the message going at home. A few easy ideas:
- Name it: At dinner, ask, “How did you pass it on today?”
- Model it: Let your child “catch you” doing small acts of kindness.
- Practice it: Choose one simple family habit for the week (eg. write a note of encouragement, invite someone new to play, or let a sibling go first).
- Pray it: Thank God for His love shown in Jesus, and ask for opportunities to pass that love on “in actions and in truth.”
When kindness is shared, at school and at home, it grows. And as our children learn to pass it on, they help create a community where everyone knows they belong.
