We are thrilled to announce Duel Chess will be back to deliver our unique chess program in Term 3. Our chess lessons are designed to inspire and engage students of all ages and skill levels.
When will they take place?
The one-hour chess lessons will take place after school every Thursday afternoon from 3.20pm to 4.20pm and are open to all students from Prep to Year 6, regardless of whether they are experienced chess players or complete beginners.
Why Chess?
Chess is more than just a game; it is a powerful tool to assist a child’s brain development. Research has shown there are many cognitive benefits from playing chess, due to the activation of areas of the brain involved in executive function, sustained attention, behavioural control, working memory and decision making.
What will students learn?
Through engaging lessons and friendly matches, students will learn the fundamentals of chess, opening strategies, tactics, and end game techniques. Our program follows a curriculum developed by chess Grand Masters, and used extensively throughout Europe, the UK, the USA, and Canada. Lessons are structured with clear goals, allowing students to progress in a logical and sequential way while covering all aspects of the game.
Meet our instructor.
Our program is run by Jai Turner from ‘Duel Chess’. Jai is a member of the Redcliffe Chess Club where he is the current Club Champion. His past training includes being mentored by an Australian Grand Master and former Australian chess champion, an American Grand Master and former World Blitz Champion and attendance at workshops given by the famous World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov.
