The inaugural Asher Mashonganyika Memorial Basketball Game between students and teachers produced an absolute epic finish last Wednesday. The game was featured as part of the Beanies for Brain Cancer week – during which monies were raised for the research and treatment of Brain Cancer sufferers through the Mark Hughes Foundation.
The week also remembered much loved student Asher Mashonganyika, who tragically passed away last year from the disease.
After falling behind in the first half to the teacher team, the student team rallied through the heroic efforts of Asher’s younger brother Tawanda. His second half culminated in a game-tying buzzer beater that sent the crowd into fever pitch and the game into overtime. Mr Hendricks then produced a jaw dropping ‘hail Mary’ swish from over half way – claiming an epic victory for the teacher team. Tawanda Mashonganyika deservedly won the student team MVP award.
