Each year Mueller welcomes a number of new staff to join the team and 2022 is no different. One of those is new teacher, Summer Davidson, and we caught up with her during the week to get to know her a little better…

What brought you to Mueller and what is your role?

I am a first-year graduate who was lucky enough to complete my first practicum at Mueller College two years ago. What stuck with me from my time here was a quote from Mr Paul Valese during one of the few chapel services I had the privilege to attend. Mr Valese said, “We see you.” I felt that and continue to see, like God loves us, the staff and people in the Mueller community make it their mission to genuinely love, see and accept every individual for who they are. Hence, when my mentor/former colleague encouraged me to apply for the job it was an opportunity I could not pass up.

I am a Food and Textiles Teacher! I am currently teaching Year 7 and 8 Food and Textiles, Year 9 Food Technology and Year 10 Food and Nutrition.

What was your favourite subject at school and which subject did you dread?

What was once known as Home Economics was my all-time favourite subject at school… No surprise there! I loved all aspects of Food and Textiles which lead me to complete my Certificate II in Kitchen Operations during my senior year. I also participated in the Need for Feed after school cooking program run by my home economics teachers which I loved! My least favourite subject was mathematics because I preferred the creative, hands-on subjects.

If you could impart one message to your students, what would it be?

If I could impart one message it would be to never give up your goal just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. Time will pass anyway! So, spend it wisely. Be present and genuinely happy in each moment and like wildflowers allow yourself to grow in places people never thought you would.

What was your very first job?

My first job was as a Woolworths Team Member. I worked in customer service for 6 years and will always be a fresh food person at heart.

Coffee of choice?

I’m one of those rare people who would prefer a smoothie over coffee any day!
