The QLD State Championship is the pinnacle of our Touch Academy Program and it certainly didn’t disappoint this year. Before we move onto results…we can’t thank our coaches enough for all their week-in-week-out hard work. Your commitment to develop our players in both skill and character is the most generous asset of our Academy and our primary service to our players.
2022 saw us take our 13 Boys & 13 Girls for the first time, coming away with 42nd for the boys and 48th for the girls. It definitely was a baptism of fire for our 13’s but isn’t this the start of any good story! We are excited at the potential we see in them and the next 5 years of their journey.
Our 15 Boys & 15 Girls returned for the second year and both saw pleasing improvements for their hard work over the past 12 months – 49th / 81 for the boys and 36th / 96 for the girls. Both teams finished in the middle of their pools and increased their winning rate. The 18 Boys & 18 Girls proved the worth of our academy in its ability to develop players over the long haul. Our boys improved from their rebuild last year coming 27th and our girls were Mueller’s stand-out team placing 23rd in the state. We look forward to welcoming some of them back as coaches next year.
We are a long way from our goal of being a Top 10 school but are confident in our knowledge of how to get there. Anything worthwhile takes hard work over time but it is a joy to do this journey together. Well done to all players, past players, coaches, cooks, and parents. It takes a lot of time and energy to develop a single Touch player so all involved should be proud of what we have achieved so far. Bring on the 2023 season!
