Year 11 Outdoor Rec students travelled to the Great Sandy National Park at the end of the last term to embark on the annual Survival Camp. As campers would attest, half of the skill in camping is good preparation, and students had to use their knowledge from the ‘Lightweight Camping’ unit to pack the right equipment as well as plan & purchase food for the four days.

The camp itself is designed to challenge students physically, mentally, and socially, with around 50km of walking/paddling. They do all of this while competing against each other in 3 tribes – somewhat like the TV show ‘Survivor’. By all reports, the group embraced the challenges and took opportunities to work through their weaknesses, develop their talents and, most importantly, refine their character.
