The fourth instalment of Beanies for Brain Cancer week at Mueller came to a close last Friday afternoon. Introduced back in 2021, the week is set aside to honour and remember much loved Year Seven student Asher Mashonganyika who tragically lost his battle with brain cancer, and all other brain cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.

This year was another resounding success, with over $7500 raised from the sale of beanies, for the Mark Hughes Foundation. The week was bookended by last Monday’s visit to Mueller College by foundation founder and brain cancer survivor himself, Mark Hughes, who visited both secondary and primary assemblies and was a keen spectator at the Asher Memorial Basketball game. The week then concluded with the highly anticipated and hugely entertaining ‘BIG CHILL’. The event saw nine Primary and eleven Secondary staff, accompanied by school captain Ariana Rodriguez, take the slide into sub-zero temperature water dressed in a range of elaborate and humorous costumes.

Thanks to all students, staff and families who contributed by purchasing one or more beanies throughout the week.
