Last semester, Harry Blackmore, a Year 11 student, entered a competition hosted by Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) Vermilion Records, where the winner would be awarded having their song professionally produced. Harry’s original demo, “New to Me,” was selected as a winner by Vermilion Records, and he will now have the opportunity to have his song professionally recorded.
Vermilion High is a program launched by QUT’s student-run label, Vermilion Records. The label collaborates with high school students, offering them a platform to record and release an original song.
As part of this prize package, Harry will work closely with QUT student mentors. During this experience, he will become familiar with the QUT environment, collaborating with final-year record producers, instrumentalists, and songwriters to record his original track in their state-of-the-art studios. Additionally, he will have the chance to team up with QUT students from various disciplines, including film, visual art, creative writing, technical production, and business, to create music videos, social media content, publicity materials, and magazine features. His demo will be premiered on Friday, October 11th, at 6 p.m. in the La Boite Theatre Forecourt, Kelvin Grove.
