Year One has been learning about tackling problems this term as they spend time exploring age-appropriate life skills. The students recently had a chance to sit down with the school counsellors, Mrs Harmer and Mr Ryan, to get to know them and ask them some questions about what they’d been learning.

Students asked about who they might consider ‘safe strangers’ if they found themselves needing help. They went through the ‘do the five’ steps to help assess when they might need assistance from grown-ups and played a game where they were given scenarios and asked if they thought it was a small problem (that they could solve themselves), a medium problem (that a friend could help them with), or a big problem (that an adult could step in to assist). Mrs Harmer and Mr Ryan explained the students might encounter some changes and challenges as they continued to walk through their schooling years, aiming to give some simple tools to help navigate them with resilience.
