I’ve noticed a growing sense of excitement around Mueller this week, as the term draws to a close.  There’s a lot happening and lots to look forward to. We have Megachapel on Thursday; Easter this weekend; school holidays; Commonwealth Games Baton relay at Redcliffe on Friday and of course the Commonwealth Games over the next couple of weeks.

School holidays bring a welcome change to routine for many of us. While students love coming to school, most enjoy school holidays as well. As a parent, I used to appreciate not having to go out in the car every day! These holidays are a little bit more special with the Commonwealth Games occurring at the Gold Coast. Many have tickets to attend events, and for those who don’t want to brave the crowds and traffic, there’s live TV coverage. Events like the games can be both enjoyed and provide opportunities for our children to realize that hard work is part of life. No athlete becomes a champion without putting in a lot of practice and skill developing over a prolonged period of time. It’s a good time to encourage our children and families to become more active and enjoy the outdoors as well.

Megachapel is a great way to end the term and is enjoyed by students, staff, parents and some grandparents. Hearing so many young voices praising God and celebrating is fantastic.  This megachapel is special as it helps us transition into Easter – the most holy Season of the Christian Year, when Christians both remember the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday (to make them right with God) and celebrate His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

As a counsellor, I’m well aware of the need for us all to look after all aspects of our life – the physical, the emotional and the spiritual.  If we only focus on one area and neglect the others, we risk becoming unbalanced. These holidays we could focus on the physical side by getting outside more; the emotional side by spending more intentional time with loved ones and the spiritual side by celebrating Easter and God’s wonderful gift of salvation to us.

I wish you and your family a blessed Easter and a happy holiday.
