The Office of Fair Trading runs the Buy Smart Competition to help students learn about marketplace issues and their consumer rights so they can become more informed consumers. Students learn to recognise and avoid scams,  improve their financial literacy and they learn about their legal consumer rights and responsibilities.

Several Mueller College students from Year 9 Business and Economics submitted impressive entries this year, and Lucas Ho was awarded second place in the Years 7-9 category, winning a personal prize of $250, plus an additional $1000 for the school. Lucas’s proud family attended the awards ceremony at Qld Parliament House, along with Ms Koolman. The judges had the following to say about Lucas’s winning entry:

“Lucas applied a lot of artistic flair to his video about buying a first car. The illustrations showed a quirky sense of humour, and the overall content demonstrated a high level of knowledge and understanding of consumer protections, such as statutory warranties, cooling-off periods and more.”

Congratulations on your outstanding achievement, Lucas!
