A group of talented Secondary students are deep in the throes of rehearsing for this year’s musical production, ‘Esther’. They’re learning lines, marking scenes, practising steps, mastering melodies, and having a whole lot of fun in the process.
The shows are set for April 28th & 29th (save the date!), and if you’ve never heard of this production, you’re not alone. We asked Director, Mrs Sharon Casey, to give us the inside scoop on what we can expect from ‘Esther’.
Why are we doing our own production this year instead of something existing?
We are creating our own musical adaptation of the ancient story of Esther, set in the 80s, to bring this timeless tale to modern audiences. Through countless hours of collaboration and hard work, we have created a fully immersive experience that captures the story’s universal themes of love, loss, danger, fear, and tragedy. Our goal is to share the beauty and power of Esther’s story with as many people as possible, inspiring reflection and creating meaningful connections through the power of storytelling.

What should we expect in terms of story and music?
When you come to watch our musical, get ready to be transported to the heart of the Persian Empire, where Babylonia Enterprises reigns supreme under the leadership of King Xerxes. While the king’s focus is on ruling over nations, including Greece, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world of office politics and drama, where characters break out in song to express their innermost thoughts and emotions. Expect to be captivated by the spectacle of a fully realized musical production that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

How are students involved?
The students have been an integral part of bringing this musical to life. Over 70 young minds have contributed their time and talent to the creation of this production. A dedicated committee of 10 students has been formed to oversee the various groups involved in the musical, including actors, dancers, backstage crew, tech crew, costumes, hair, and makeup. Each group has been working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the show is of the highest quality. Through their hard work and commitment, these students have helped to make this musical an unforgettable experience for audiences.

What do you hope audiences walk away saying about ‘Esther’?
After watching this musical, audiences will walk away saying, “I didn’t know office politics could be so entertaining!” They’ll be humming the catchy tunes and remembering the stunning choreography for days to come. They might even find themselves singing their emails or breaking out in a dance routine during their next team meeting. Who knows? Maybe they’ll start a trend and bring musical theatre to the office! And let’s not forget the most important takeaway from the musical – the inspiring story of Esther’s bravery and courage.
