Year One got outside the classroom last week as they explored being ‘Groundskeeper for a Day’. Led by groundskeeper Lynelle, each class learnt about the varieties of plants around the campus, their relationship with animals, and how they are looked after. They talked about the parts of a plant and what they need to thrive before Lynelle showed them some examples of how bugs or lack of nutrients can affect plant health.

Students got a close-up look at some compost (complete with worms!), learning how they can make their own at home. After looking at some tools and safety equipment, Lynelle then gave them a demonstration of the hedge trimmer. Year One then got hands-on doing some weeding, and spreading mulch in the garden.
